Is a private tour worth the cost?

Beacon Hill Park When the family travels to  a new destination, we have discovered that a guided tour is the perfect way to familiarize ourselves with an area. The tour gives us a preview of the “don’t miss” places so that we know where to head when we explore the area on our own.  The big question is, when you are traveling with your multi-generational family, is a private tour really worth the cost? We think it is. Here are a few reasons why.

Skip The Big Bills

One of the things I think about when I'm planning a trip is how much cash to bring with me and I'm sure you wonder about this as well. Experience has taught me that less is more and smaller is better when it comes to cash. Here are a few reasons why.  The kids are going to hit you up for money. I don’t know what it is about kids, but they can smell your cash and suddenly they need it.  It goes something like this.

Lighten Your Luggage Load

When you are traveling with your multi-generational family there are likely to be members of the group who cannot manage all of their own luggage. In spite of your best effort to meet the  “everyone must be able to carry their own bags” maxim, in multi-gen travel, things don’t always work out that way. Often this happens when a group member needs mobility assistance. This can range from a family member needing a wheelchair to little ones still in a stroller and everything in between (Remember the daredevil of the family who broke their leg right before the family vacation? Every family has one of those.) This can also stem from chronic over-packing. Either way, this can result in more bags than people.
